There isn’t really anything major to complain about when it comes to the new elements on display for the Indianapolis Colts. Either way, it’s definitely weird that the Colts would choose to go with a black Swoosh and it’s one of the only questionable decisions that the Colts made with this identity refresh. The addition of black could mean some interesting things for the color rush uniforms going forward, which is definitely something to be on the lookout for.

Overall, things are just a lot cleaner now when compared to what the old logo set looked like and it’s always nice to have things get streamlined a bit when it comes to a visual identity. After 16 seasons of suiting up for the Chargers, quarterback Philip Rivers threw passes on Thursday in Indianapolis Colts gear -- just one of many jolting new-team images from 2020 NFL training camps. Indianapolis didn’t need to make any serious changes — instead, they simply cleaned things up a little bit and now the Colts have a visual identity that fits right in with other modern looks without sacrificing their classic design.

In this humble blogger’s opinion, the team nailed the addition of black to the color palette. The new “Indiana” secondary logo has an outline of the state of Indiana carved out of the “C” from the Colts’ new primary wordmark to honor the team’s home state and community. There’s no reason to seriously tweak a classic, which is where the Colts are at with their current uniforms. The new wordmark is a lot short and less vertical-looking than the previous wordmark as well. Here are the details:Ultimately these changes are minor, the biggest coming by way of the new secondary logo and the addition of black to the color palette. Both seem more modern, even though the numbers are a throwback to the 1950’s, what’s old is new, I guess. The Colts have left behind the block number font in favor of going to a more stylized number font that closely resembles what the team wore on their jerseys during the 1950s and 1960s.
